Men talking together outdoors

The single biggest reason men don't come to a circle is that they have no idea what one is. The imagination fills the gap, and it usually fills it with something far stranger than the reality. So here is exactly what happens, step by step, with nothing left out.

Before you arrive

You'll get a short message with the time, the link or the address, and one line: you don't need to prepare anything. That's true. There's no reading, no homework, no questionnaire. You turn up as you are.

The check-in

We start with a round. Each man says, briefly, how he's actually arriving, what's on top for him tonight. It's not therapy and it's not a confession. Some men say a sentence. Some say more. You can pass. The point is simply to land in the room and be seen.

  • You're never put on the spot or made to perform.
  • Whatever's said in the room stays in the room.
  • A trained facilitator holds the structure so it never drifts.

The work

The middle of the session is where the real thing happens. One man might bring something he's wrestling with, a decision, a loss, a knot he can't untie alone, and the group gives him their full attention. Not advice. Attention. It turns out that's rarer, and more useful, than advice.

Most men have never had a room full of other men listen to them without trying to win, fix, or move on. The first time is disarming.

The close

We end the way we began, a short round, this time on what you're taking away. Then it's done. Ninety minutes, start to finish. Most men leave lighter than they arrived, and a little surprised that the strangest-sounding part of their week turned out to be the most honest.
